Chicago Symphony Center

Chicago Symphony Hall, designed by Daniel Burnham and opened in 1904, serves as the home of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra1. It was built to provide a dedicated space for the orchestra, which previously performed in the larger Auditorium Theatre. The hall is renowned for its excellent acoustics and has hosted numerous legendary performances. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978 and became a National Historic Landmark in 1994.

Robie House (a)

The Frederick C. Robie House is a master work by the great American architect Frank Lloyd Wright, and it's the last of his three works that I had long planned to see in person.  Prior to visiting the University of Chicago, where the early 20th-century structure is located, I had seen and photographed Wright's Fallingwater in southwestern Pennsylvania, and the Guggenheim Museum in New York City.  As someone has pointed out, I'm a big Wright fan.

Of course the comprehensive information on the Robie House can be found from Wikipedia, but the experience of being at the site is something that can't be had by reading materials.  One striking moment for me was when about to tour the interior of the house, the curator pointed to the Harper Center (of the Booth School of Business) across the street, relating the two built almost 100 years apart as "having a dialogue" in styles.  Very interesting.
