Warships at Patriots Point (Mt. Pleasant)

Patriots Point in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, is a naval and maritime museum offering visitors a glimpse into military history. Its star attractions are the historic warships, most notably the USS Yorktown (CV-10), an Essex-class aircraft carrier. Commissioned in 1943, it served in the Pacific during World War II and later in the Vietnam War before decommissioning in 1970. The vessel now functions as a museum, showcasing naval history and military aviation. The Yorktown also houses the Medal of Honor Museum, honoring American military heroes. St. Philip's Church

Established in 1680, St. Philip's Church in Charleston, South Carolina, is the state's oldest European-American religious congregation. The original wooden structure, located at Broad and Meeting streets, was damaged by a hurricane in 1710. A second church was completed on Church Street in 1723 but was destroyed by fire in 1835. The current building was constructed between 1835 and 1836, with its steeple added from 1848 to 1850. Designed in the Wren-Gibbs tradition, the stuccoed brick church features an imposing tower and three Tuscan pedimented porticoes. In 1973, it was designated a National Historic Landmark, recognized for its architectural sophistication and historical significance.

St. Michael's Church

St. Michael's Anglican Church, located at the intersection of Broad and Meeting streets in Charleston, South Carolina, is the city's oldest surviving religious structure. Constructed between 1751 and 1761, it was built on the original site of St. Philip's Church, which had relocated due to hurricane damage. The church's design reflects the influence of London's St. Martin-in-the-Fields, featuring a two-story portico with Tuscan columns. Notably, President George Washington worshipped here in 1791. Like St. Philip's Church, St. Michael's is also recognized as a National Historic Landmark.

Randolph Hall, College of Charleston

The College of Charleston, founded in 1770 and chartered in 1785, is the oldest college in South Carolina and one of the oldest in the United States. It was the first municipal college in the country and played a significant role in the development of public education in the state. Built in 1828, Randolph Hall is the iconic centerpiece of the College and a designated National Historic Landmark. The building exemplifies neoclassical architectural design with its symmetrical façade, columned portico, and central pediment. Surrounded by lush live oaks draped with Spanish moss, it faces the historic Cistern Yard, a significant gathering space for campus events and graduation ceremonies.

Broad Street
